Message from Therapist

I am passionate about providing therapy grounded in the Catholic understanding of the human person and I believe that everyone can benefit from therapy. My primary focus is being an empathetic listener and really trying to understand my clients' experiences and perspectives. Using evidence-based techniques, I also help my clients manage overwhelming emotions, replace destructive behaviors with healthy ones, improve relationships, and heal emotional wounds.

As a parent myself, I have a particular interest in helping parents and am a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. I have developed a unique approach of involving parents in the process of their children’s therapy. I also can work on parenting concerns with individual clients who are parents.

I have experience working with people of different demographics throughout the life span, but specialize in working with children from 3-12 years, teen girls, and adult women. Other areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma resolution, oppositional behaviors, and prepubescent inappropriate sexual behaviors.  

I have an eclectic approach and utilize a variety of approaches including: Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and EMDR.

I offer in-person office sessions at Alpha Omega Clinic's Alexandria location and telehealth appointments for clients located in MD and VA where I am licensed to practice. (Unfortunately, I cannot offer telehealth services to individuals who are not physically located in these states)

Bio:
Virginia Madden graduated with her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University. Prior experience includes working at: a pregnancy resource center, an alternative-to-hospitalization program, and a community health center serving underprivileged adults. She joined Alpha Omega Clinic in 2018 and is a licensed professional counselor in both Maryland and Virginia.

She has pursued training and supervision in various therapeutic approaches, including Child-centered Play Therapy, and is a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. She is also certified in EMDR Level II through the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology.
