And you, child, will be called prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God by which the daybreak from on high will visit us to shine on those who sit in darkness and death's shadow, to guide our feet into the path of peace."
~ Luke 1: 76-79
At the threshold of this third millennium, the consistent call of St. Pope John Paul II during his papacy was to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ and His mercy to a world that is immersed in sin and shackled by despair. The Catholic therapist has a critical role to play in this new evangelization.
Our society has become nearly saturated with sexual immorality, emotional suffering, mental illness, divorce, abortion, child abuse, pornography, drug and alcohol abuse, and addictions of every sort. Psychotherapy is usually the first place most people turn for help, yet psychoanalysis and other psychological techniques, recovered memories, psychotropic medications, shock treatments, and primal screams on their own can't give us the peace and freedom we seek. In some cases, they may even further our despair.
The truth, and only the Truth, can set us free. And this Truth is not a something, but a Someone - Our Lord Jesus Christ - The Way, The TRUTH, and The Life.
The Vocation of a Catholic Therapist:
So, we entrust CatholicTherapists.com and the work of all the Catholic therapists we represent to the patronage of St. John the Baptist. Like him, may we use our talents and knowledge to prepare the way for the Lord, that He may heal the broken and wounded hearts of those suffering mental and emotional ills, depression, anxiety, and despair. May we be merely the instruments He uses to lead His little ones to Himself.
