Message from Therapist

I love seeing people overcome struggles and look back on their life and say that things have gotten better. Whether you are facing anxiety, depression, trauma, difficulties at work, self confidence issues, conflicts in your family life or many other areas, I can help. I have 15 years of experience working in pastoral ministry with all ages. I have walked alongside teens, adults and families through their struggles and triumphs.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with Lumin Counseling. Our clinic focuses on a holistic view of the human person. We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR to help people experience real healing and freedom. I am passionate about helping individuals, and I also work with couples.

I am able to incorporate faith into your counseling sessions upon request. If you are exploring therapy, or you want to talk about what is going on in your life, send me a message and we can set up a free 20-minute phone conversation.

Bio:
My name is Ricky Shoop, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, under the supervision of Stephen Duraney, LPCC. I am married and we have four small children who keep us very busy!

This coming Easter, I will celebrate my sixteenth year in the Catholic Church. When I was first exposed to the teachings of the Church (after growing up Anglican, and wandering into agnosticism in early college), I found myself in the place I had always longed for. A talk on Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body was the beginning to a new life in Christ, and the start to my own healing journey. From the beginning, I have been immersed in the life of ministry. I have a unique background in cognitive computer science, parish and diocesan ministry, youth and young adult apostolates and clinical mental health counseling. The Church is full of many different charisms, which I love to study and practice.

In a clinical setting, I incorporate EMDR, CBT and other modalities to help people overcome trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD, addictions, and many other issues as well. As a devout Catholic, I love working with a huge variety of clients while holding in my heart the truths and wisdom of the Catholic Church. I focus on creating an environment that is non-judgmental, fun and impactful. Many clients ask to incorporate prayer into our sessions, and it is incredible to see the power of faith and reason transform individuals.
