Message from Therapist

As a trauma-informed therapist, I use a variety of techniques to help unlock, process, and heal trauma that is stored in the mind and body. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have found these methods to be most beneficial to clients who struggle with a range of problems, from complex trauma to your every day, "run of the mill" issues that seem to just make people feel stuck in life. I believe that there is not a "one size fits all" type of therapy, and I aim to tailor therapy techniques to each of my clients' unique needs. You are the expert on what you are feeling and how you are experiencing life, my job is to help you find your most true, authentic self. I am Catholic myself, so for clients who are Catholic, I am happy to bring faith-based practices into the therapy process as well. I find that merging the science of mental health with the Catholic perspective has allowed those clients to find purpose and meaning within the healing process while strengthening their own walk in faith.

More About Rich Lamm, MA, LPCC

I work with adults on an individual level who are looking for treatment for PTSD, anxiety, depression, anger issues, and those needing to learn healthy coping skills to manage daily stressors. I have a special place in my heart for police officers and first responders, as well as active and former military personnel. I also enjoy working with men who struggle with their roles as husbands and fathers, and who are looking for help in this area.

Clients can expect a warm, relaxed, and welcoming environment and a space for them to be free of judgment. I am honest but encouraging with my feedback, and I encourage clients to be honest with me. That is what makes a healthy therapeutic alliance!

I pursued a career as a therapist after a few years in law enforcement, followed by time spent as a case manager working with felony probationers and parolees. I found that the people I worked with over and over again were not getting the treatment they really needed to make lasting changes. Most of them came from families that were stuck in a cycle of trauma that they didn't know how to escape, and I wanted to develop the skill set and knowledge to help people break out of that cycle and pave a new way forward. Later on, I found that all people from all walks of life have parts of themselves that are holding on to false stories and beliefs, memories, and narratives that keep them stuck in one place. It is very rewarding to see clients finally understand why they do the things they wish they didn't and find the confidence to do the things they always wished they could.

I will collaborate with you to develop a treatment plan that you have ownership over and with which you feel comfortable. The therapy session is for you, and I want to make sure you look forward to coming, even when we work on "the hard stuff". I won't tell you what I think you should do, and I will work with you in identifying specific, realistic, and attainable goals that will help you along in the therapy process.

You can expect us to use the first session to get to know each other and for you to share what you hope to gain from therapy. I will then share with you how I think I can help you, and together we will decide if it's a right fit. No pressure, very easy. If by the end of the session, you feel it's not a right fit, no problem. If you do, then we'll get another one scheduled!
