Unfortunately, not able to accept new clients at this time.
Hello, my name is Mitch Mueller. I have a Master Degree in Counseling and Psychotherapy from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and a Master Degree in Theology from the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity. I like to integrate my training on psychotherapy with my training in theology to help people on their paths of healing.
If you interested in seeing me for psychotherapy, please contact me by phone at: 262-353-9955. My Fax is: 833-298-3472.
Before scheduling a first appointment you will need to 1) complete my intake form 2) review my client rights and privacy practices 3) provide me with photos of the front and back of any active insurance cards. You can find links to paper and electronic versions of the intake form as well as the client rights and privacy practices on my website muellercounselingllc.com.
Please email or snail mail the complete intake form and the photocopies of your insurance. Once I have these I can do an insurance verification and schedule a first appointment.
Each person is unique, and has an interesting and valuable story to tell. I learn more from my clients every day than from anything else. I strive to actively listen and pay attention to my client's stories, and help them identify patterns in their thinking, emotions, and behaviors. I often make recommendations and I end most sessions by giving clients an assignment of some kind. Yet above all I recognize the honor, dignity, intelligence, and freedom of my clients to make their own choices and learn from their own mistakes. It is completely up to client whether or not they complete the assignments I give, or follow my recommendations - or choose to do something different. Often they do choose to do something different, and they can share this with me, and this often makes me a better and more-informed counselor.
I use both virtue-based and systems-based approaches. This means sometimes I help the client make external changes in his or her environment (systems), and sometimes I help them make changes internal changes in their thinking and behaviors (virtue). For example, sometimes a person with an addiction can sometimes change their environment so that they aren't as tempted to turn to drugs, sex, shopping etc. However, sometimes this is simply not possible, and the only option is to help the person learn new skills to become strong enough to resist temptations more frequently and relapse less often and less severely.
I have been described by my clients as "direct" and "brass-tacks" and I frequently ask my clients for the same direct and honest feedback in return. I learn so much from everyone I meet, and I have found that sharing this knowledge with clients to be a rewarding experience. I consider being a counselor an honor and a privilege. I am a difficult person to "shock" as I have worked so many years with people in the highest need categories (the criminal justice system, detox centers, hospitals, HIV service centers, and temporary homeless shelters) that I feel it is uncommon for me to be surprised by someone's behavior or by their circumstances.
