It's great to meet you! My name is Ian Masson, MS, LPC, and I am the founder and owner of Agape Counseling & Consulting, LLC. As a licensed professional counselor, I have witnessed the truly healing power of relationship. Many of us unfortunately have been wounded and hurt in past experiences, leading to difficulties in relationships with others and ourselves. Trauma and other painful experiences can lead to anxiety, depression, shame, and distorted views of self. I have worked with a wide variety of ages and concerns during that time and am excited for the opportunity to work with you as well. Given my background, much of my work has been with clients who are interested in an integrative approach between therapy and their faith or spirituality.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families and helping them to experience growth and healing in their lives. Whether you are experiencing life stressors, relationship trouble, or are seeking growth, I collaborate with you to identify what hasn't been working. Together, we can address the internal and relational factors that preventing you from living a more fulfilling life.

I welcome the opportunity to connect with you! Thank you!

Practice Info

Bio:
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I graduated with a master’s in clinical psychology from the Institute of Psychological Sciences, now Divine Mercy University, in 2013.

In my work in community mental health and as a previous director of the IPS center at Divine Mercy University, I have come to see relationship as a key factor in helping clients to flourish. In all my approaches, I seek to cultivate an attitude of curiosity and compassion to facilitate growth and healing. In doing so, the factors that are preventing healthy interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships are removed to allow a greater gift of self.

Much of the preparation I have received has trained me in interventions focused on the counselor/client bond and the client's connection with others. These include a certificate in Child Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), a certificate in Relationship Enhancement® (RE) for couples and families, a certificate in Filial Family Therapy (FFT), and training in Internal Family Systems (IFS).

More About Ian Masson, MS, LPC

Agape Counseling & Consulting, LLC

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have witnessed the truly healing power of relationship. The three hearts of Agape's logo reflect the love and self gift that existed within the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. While they are a model for us, the reality is that many of us experience wounds and hurts in our families, leading to difficulties in relationships with others and ourselves. Trauma and other painful experiences can lead to anxiety, depression, and distorted views of self and these bonds.

At Agape, I provide professional mental health counseling services through which internal and relational healing can occur, allowing you more freedom in both giving and receiving love. My hope is that your connection with yourself, others and God will flourish as a result.
