I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Colorado with a specialty in psychotherapy. I am dedicated to helping both adults and children to reach their best adaptive functioning in view of current emotional distress. My focus in counseling is to help individuals and families to gain an understanding of one's underlying conflicts and patterns through cognitive and psychoanalytically oriented therapy so they can develop healthier personal relationships, increased self-esteem and better coping skills throughout life.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of compassion and God of all encouragement,
who encourages us in our every affliction,
so that we may be able to encourage those who are in any affliction
with the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged by God."
(2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
Cheryl Prevot, LCSW has over twenty years of counseling experience. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee in 1979 with a Masters of Science in Social Work (MSSW) and a specialty in Clinical Social Work.
Cheryl has experience in working with adults and children in a variety of settings including social services agencies, child protective services, outpatient mental health centers, and in private practice. She has held her license to practice in Colorado since 1988.
She is a member of the Clinical Social Workers Association, the Catholic Psychotherapy Association, Association for Play Therapy, Colorado Sand play Therapy Association, and the Catholic Therapists Network .
She has had additional training with the Metropolitan Denver Interdisciplinary Committee on Child Custody, and has completed the four-year program of the St. John Vianney Catholic Biblical School in Denver.
In her practice, Cheryl is dedicated to helping both adults and children to reach their best adaptive functioning in view of current emotional distress. By helping her clients to gain an understanding of one’s underlying conflicts and patterns through cognitive and psychoanalytically oriented therapy, clients can have healthier personal relationships, have increased self-esteem and better coping shills throughout life.
Because children express themselves differently from adults, play therapy is used to help children to express their concerns. In psychotherapy with children, Cheryl observes and interacts with the child through play and will assist the child in putting words to the actions expressed. Her goal is for the child to begin to understand their feelings and to develop coping skills for better mental health. She will also meet with parents periodically to discuss the treatment plans and progress.
